BioShock – iOS – HD Launch Trailer
Return to rapture in BioShock, now available for iOS devices.
This “genetically enhanced” first-person shooter lets you do things never before possible in the genre.
Turn everything into a weapon, biologically mod your body with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade your weapons and craft new ammo variants, and experiment with different battle techniques.
After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. BioShock forces you to question the lengths to which you will go and how much of your humanity you will sacrifice…to save your own life.
BioShock is loaded with some of greatest, most modifiable weapons to ever blast their way into a shooter. But guns alone won’t be enough to defeat the devious AIs of Rapture. There are literally hundreds of other strategies players can use to take out his enemies. Here’s just a few things you can do a foe:
Catch his Grenades in Mid Air and Toss Them Back at Him
Freeze Him Solid and Shatter Him with Smack of your Wrench
Lead him and his comrades to water and Zap them all with 1000 Volts
Burn Him Up With Home-Made Molotov Cocktails
Booby Trap Healing Machines and Watch Them Blow up IN his Face
Brainwash Him to Become Your Personal BodyGuard
Invent your own Ammo Types to Prey on his Vulnerabilities
Turn his own Security System Against Him
Light Him on Fire and Launch Heat Seeking Missiles At him
Torment Him with Plagues of Insects
Take Research Photos of Him to Learn his Weaknesses
Send Him Flying into the Ceiling to Knock him Senseless
Take control of your world by hacking mechanical devices, commandeering security turrets and crafting unique items critical to your very survival.
Upgrade your weapons with ionic gels, explosives and toxins to customize them to the enemy and environment.
Genetically modify your body through dozens of Plasmid Stations scattered throughout the city, empowering you with fantastic and often grotesque abilities.
Explore a living world powered by Ecological A.I., where the inhabitants have interesting and consequential relationships with one another that impact your gameplay experience.
Experience truly next generation graphics that vividly illustrate the forlorn art deco city, highlighted by the most detailed and realistic water effects ever developed in a video game.
Make meaningful choices and mature decisions, ultimately culminating in the grand question: do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture or save them?

Free-To-Play Games – Do They All Suck?
The Free-To-Play business model, AKA Freemium, AKA Fee-To-Pay, AKA Free-To-Wait, has garnered a lot of criticism over the last few years for locking away standard gameplay features behind a pay wall.
But are all free-to-play games bad? Lots of them are, but there are also some real gems to be found.
Great free-to-play games are those that don’t hinder, handicap or even completely halt progression unless you spend money. Bad free-to-play games are the ones that do.
In the most sinful free-to-play games you’re ‘rewarded’ with in-game currency pretty steadily as you play, giving the illusion of progression, but that currency is virtually useless unless combined with a premium currency that you pay for.
The developers of these Freemium games take a page straight out of the drug-dealers handbook by providing you with the premium currency for free at first… Just a little taste of the good stuff to get you hooked…
They then dramatically slow down the pace of the game and ask you to wait hours for progression that takes just a few seconds if you’re willing to pay for the premium currency.
At that point, the free currency that you’re rewarded by playing the game gives you no satisfaction because it doesn’t allow you to actually progress through the game, and the premium currency also gives you no satisfaction because you’re simply paying to unlock features rather than being challenged with engaging gameplay mechanics in order to progress through the game.
The most recent game to integrate this morally-bankrupt system is Godus. That’s right, the same game that raised over $900 000 / £500 000 through its KickStarter campaign has used that money to develop a Fee-To-Pay/Free-To-Wait title in order to extort even more money out of the public and the original backers.
I started playing Godus with the aim of seeing how far I could get without spending a penny and I very quickly hit a wall. I had amassed a huge amount of the game’s free currency ‘Belief’, but items in the game had begun requiring the paid-for currency ‘Gems’ and lots of it. To put this into perspective, just one item to make my citizens mildly happier cost 20 gems which in real money costs $2/£1.20. A hefty price considering how many similar items are in the game at ever-increasing prices.
The most amazing thing about this is the two-facedness of the game’s creator, Peter Molyneux, who not-so-long-ago called the same functionality in EA’s reboot of Dungeon Keeper “ridiculous” in an interview with the BBC.
“I felt myself turning round saying, ‘What? This is ridiculous. I just want to make a dungeon. I don’t want to schedule it on my alarm clock for six days to come back for a block to be chipped.'”
– Peter Molyneux discussing EA’s Dungeon Keeper
Needless to say Godus is not a Free-To-Play title worth investing any time in unless you have money to throw away. Godus isn’t really ‘Free-To-Play’ it’s Free-To-Try-For-Five-Minutes-Before-You-Must-Fork-Out-Boat-Loads-Of-Cash-To-Continue. 🙂
There are, however, some incredible alternatives out there that are worth investing your time and money into. Loadout, Hearthstone & League of Legends are all absolutely incredible Free-To-Play games where you don’t have to spend a single penny to enjoy them.
Loadout is a multiplayer third-person-shooter and is the epitome of Free-To-Play done right. This game is fun, hilarious, frenetic, and allows you to craft your own weapons with countless potential combinations. You earn the in-game currency ‘blutes’ as you play and use them to unlock weapon parts. You then have the option to purchase the premium currency Spacebux if you want to, although those can only be used to get cosmetic custom items for your character. It’s currently available on PC and is coming to PS4 soon.
I enjoyed Hearthstone the second I began playing it, although I cynically believed that the legendary cards would only be unlocked by those who were willing to pay extra for more card packs… but I’m happy to say I was wrong and I got my first legendary card just a few days after I began playing and all without spending any money! It’s available on PC, Mac and iOS now.
League of Legends transformed the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) category from a sub-genre into one of the most popular genres in gaming. Despite being released five years ago it remains the most popular title in its category thanks to an incredible level of on-going support from its developer, Riot Games, who continue to constantly add new content to the game. It’s available on PC and Mac now.
So while Free-To-Play is the domain of some of the most unscrupulous game developers in the industry, there are some amazing games to be experienced out there. 🙂

Minecraft On PlayStation 4 – HD Announcement Trailer
Minecraft on PS4 will feature worlds 36 times bigger than the ones you might be used to on PS3. Existing players will be able to import PS3 saves to the PS4 version, allowing them to continue work on an immense structure or delve even deeper towards the Nether.
Making old saves compatible with the newer versions of the game was priority for Mojang and our trusted developer chums at 4J.
We value the loyalty of PlayStation fans who bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition last year, and want to make things as simple as possible for any early adopters. I’ve experienced the pain of lost progress many times; it’s not cool.
For similar reasons, anyone who’s previously bought Playstation 3 Edition will be able to upgrade to Playstation 4 Edition for a small fee. This applies to everyone who’s bought Minecraft digitally and transfers their PSN account to their new console. Our intention is to make this work for the disc version of Minecraft too, but it’s proving a bit trickier to set up. We’ll post more info on this as soon as possible.
The clever devs at 4J are also taking advantage of Dualshock 4′s unique features. You’ll be able to navigate all the menus (and craft) by using the touchpad and, of course, share and stream your experiences thanks to PS4′s built-in social thingymabobs. It’s all completely optional, so don’t worry if you’re not keen on moving your thumbs or showing off your skills.
There’ll be a heap of Trophies to be earned for the hunters, and a bunch of Sony-specific DLC coming soon after release. Minecraft on PS4 will also support up to eight players online, and up to four of those will be able to log in via one PS4 thanks to the compact convenience of split-screen.
I don’t think anyone at Mojang is entirely sure why Minecraft has been quite so successful over the past few years, but all of us have experienced the fun of playing and witnessed it capture the imagination of spectators and backseat gamers, no matter their age or gender.
